The number of violent attacks against security guards has been on a sharp increase over the past few years. This has forced security companies and government agencies to devise means of protection from such violent attacks. Most guards are now given spike threat protection, ballistic protection, and stab threat protection.
Spike threat protection is the protection against sharp pointed objects such as needles and ice picks. Spike attacks are very dangerous and can be fatal in case vital body organs are injured during an attack. Needles and other sharp objects usually penetrate through the micro spaces between threads in regular fabrics. This is very different from bullets and knives which normally penetrate fabrics by tearing the threads in the fabrics.
Spike threat protection body armor is designed to stop sharp objects from penetrating the armor. You should however be very careful when buying body armor because they are very specific in terms of the protection offered. Even though ballistic body armor can stop high-velocity bullets, spikes can still penetrate such armor. If you want to be fully protected against spike attacks, then you must ensure that you are using spike threat protection body armor.
Who needs spike threat protection body armor?
Spike threat protection body armor is normally used in places where the victim is likely to get into close contact with the source of the threat. For instance, maximum-security prison guards have to wear spike threat protection armor before entering cell blocks. This is because such prisons harbor notorious and dangerous criminals. Most hardcore criminals are considered dangerous because they don’t have anything to lose and therefore they can easily kill anybody.
Bouncers should also be fully provided with spike threat protection since they occasionally find themselves in very dangerous situations. A good example is when a bouncer has to kick out a highly intoxicated reveler who is armed with a sharp object. In such scenarios, the bouncer can easily be spiked if he is not fully protected. It is the responsibility of the bouncer to ensure that the entertainment club is peaceful and orderly. In case the bouncer is not fully protected from such threats, he can not perform his tasks properly as he will be in constant fear for his life.
Bodyguards also benefit a lot from spike threat protection, especially in cases where the person being guarded likes mingling with the general population. It is the responsibility of the bodyguard to ensure that his boss is not spiked while mingling with the general population. In case of an attack, the bodyguard has to jump between his boss and the assailant. In such scenarios, the bodyguard will be severely injured if he is not fully protected against spike attacks.
Security guards manning sensitive installations should also be provided with spike threat protection body armor. In such installations, assailants might decide to enter the building with sharp non-metal objects since it is very difficult to enter with guns. This means that it is the responsibility of the guards to disarm and arrest the attackers. The guards can be in grave danger if they are not fully protected against spike attacks.
